Port Coquitlam badminton player Daryl Yang showed everyone why he is the No. 1 ranked player in the province last weekend.
The Shuttlesport Badminton Academy member won both the singles and doubles events during the 2016 B.C. Provincial Championships in Richmond in the under-17 category. It was the sixth and seventh provincial title for the young player and his coach Al Mawani said they were some of his strongest wins.
“He was dominant throughout the tournament,” Mawani said.
Yang, who has not lost a singles match in his age category this season, will now prepare for the upcoming national competition which will be held in Moncton next month.
Coquitlam Badminton brothers Nestor and Paxton Lin from the Ace Badminton Centre will also be competing in the nationals in New Brunswick.
Paxton won gold in both the under-13 singles and doubles events, while Nestor won two silver medals in the under-15 mixed doubles and male doubles. He also won a bronze medal in the male singles event.
