A team of Tri-City high school players fell just short in their quest for provincial supremacy on the rugby pitch.
The United Rugby Club were edged 13-10 by Kelowna in the B.C. U19 Tier II semifinal Nov. 23 at Hume Park in New Westminster. Kelowna took a 13-5 lead to the half but United carried the play in the second half. United maintained ball possession in the attacking zone for the final 20 minutes including a final push with non-stop possession at the end of the game.
The United squad, made up of players from every high school in the Tri-Cities except Heritage Woods, posted an undefeated season in league play including handing Kelowna its only loss over the past two seasons. Kelowna knocked off United in last year's B.C. Tier II final.
