Three Tri-City residents were part of the 27 players who hit Morgan Creek Golf Course in South Surrey during Monday's final qualifying event in hopes of securing one of the four final spots into the 2012 CN Canadian Women's Open.

Unfortunately, none in the trio advanced despite their gallant efforts.

The Open's four rounds of competition run Thursay through Sunday at Coquitlam's Vancouver Golf Club.

Canadian amateur A Ram Choi of Surrey, a sophomore at Portland State University and a Vancouver Golf Club member, shot two-under-par 70 to earn one of the final four spots into the field.

Two other players -- amateur Erynne Lee of Silverdale, Wash., and Maiya Tanaka of San Diego, Calif. -- also earned spots into the 156-player field after carding rounds of two-under-par 70.

Lee, a sophomore at UCLA, was recently named to the 2012 USA World Amateur Team after reaching the quarterfinals at the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur. Tanaka, who competes primarily on the Symetra Tour, is also a product of UCLA.

Emily Talley of Napa, Calif., a product of the University of Colorado, was awarded the final qualifier spot after besting Brit Hayes of Polson, Mont., and Katy Harris of Humble, Tex., in a playoff after the trio shot one-under par 71 through 18 holes.

Among those failing to qualify were amateur's Valentina Trillo or Port Moody and Coquitlam's Anica Yoo.

Trillo finished tied for 10th with a three-over-par 75, while Yoo was deadlocked for 17th with a five-over-par 77.

Also, Port Moody's Ashlee Claydon placed 24th with a 15-over-par 87 score.

With the addition of Choi to the field, a total of 15 Canadians will now compete for Canada's National Women's Open Championship. Coquitlam's Jisoo Keel, 17, has already qualified.

A pair of previously announced Canadians have withdrawn from the event, including Stephanie Sherlock (wrist injury) and Langley's Sue Kim, who will instead compete in this week's Symetra Tour event.
