Port Moody skier Katrina Voss is heading to the under-16 Whistler Cup, one of the largest races for 12 to 15-year-old athletes, when it is held on Whistler Blackcomb next week.

The event will mark a huge milestone for what has been a difficult season for the young skier.

Voss' home hill, Hemlock, has been closed all season and she has had to travel each weekend in order to find snow and keep up her training regiment.

She was the only under-16 junior racer on the circuit last year and she is one of only 18 to qualify for the Whistler Cup.

Some of the worlds best skiers have competed in the event, including American Lindsey Vonn, as well as Slovenia's Tina Maze and Italy's Chritof Innerhofer.
