WLA Adanacs storm back to clip Victoria

Coquitlam Adanacs saved their best for the last 20 minutes Saturday night.

Coquitlam Adanacs saved their best for the last 20 minutes Saturday night.

Down 8-5 heading into the third period, the Adanacs whipped in four unanswered goals in an eight-minute span to trip the Victoria Shamrocks 9-8 in Western Lacrosse Association action at Poirier Sports Complex.

The victory left Coquitlam with a fourth-place record of 6-6-0, while the second-place Shamrocks dipped to 7-5-0.

Despite getting out-scored 5-1 in the second frame, the A's were not playing badly and were full credit for the win, according to their head coach Bob Salt.

"I think we played really well," Salt told The Tri-City News. "We had a a lot of chances [in the first two periods] but we weren't putting the ball in the net. We just kept plugging away and finally it paid it off."

A's rookie Ryan Johnson got the ball rolling in the final frame when he netted his third goal of the game 7:53 in, followed by markers by Dane Dobbie, Jon Harnett and Dobbie again.

Kevin Olson, Mark Negrin and Jason Jones struck net earlier for the A's, who got a stellar 31-save performance from goalie Nick Rose.

The Adanacs host the Shamrocks again Saturday at Poirier at 7 p.m. before visiting the 2-10-1 Burrards in Maple Ridge on Sunday.

"They [Shamrocks] are going to be gunning for us, for sure," Salt said. "They think they got robbed but we don't think so. We deserved it."
