$250,000 for Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam school playgrounds

Huge grant announced as part of provincial playground funding plan - announcement made just prior to provincial election call
School playgrounds are an important part of the school community.
School playgrounds are an important part of the school community. Now two more will be built at School District 43 schools as a result of new provincial funding.

Schools in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam will be able to build new playgrounds for students in the coming months thanks to new provincial grants announced over the weekend.

The province will provide $125,000 in funding for playground equipment for Porter Street elementary in Coquitlam and Cedar Drive elementary in Port Coquitlam through its $5 million Playground Equipment Program (PEP), now in its third year.

The funding announced is $25,000 more than schools received in previous years. It comes as schools plan more outdoor activity and expect to hold more classes outdoors to promote health and reduce the spread of infection during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement was made just prior to Monday's provincial election call.
