British Columbia is transitioning into phase 3 of its staged reopening of the economy and public life.

The announcement came in a press conference Wednesday, June 23, accompanied with a number of advisories for people looking to travel across the province, including not travelling with anyone who is sick, maintaining physical distancing and bringing groceries with to your destination.

“This is not the summer for large family gatherings or big parties,” said Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Those headed out of town are encouraged to plan ahead before their trip to make sure their destination is welcoming visitors. The province is recommending people also travel in small groups, and that when getting together with friends and family members outside of your bubble to do so in small groups of two to six people.

Premier John Horgan said that while the phase 3 plan targets opening up the province for British Columbians to travel, neighbours from places like Alberta and the Yukon are welcome, so long as they take appropriate precautions.

The government also announced that it has extended the provincial state of emergency until July 7.
