Baby found abandoned in Port Coquitlam, say police

Coquitlam RCMP are investigating after receiving a report Saturday afternoon of an abandoned infant in Port Coquitlam.

Police were called to the scene at in the 2300 Block of Ranger Lane at approximately 12:50 p.m. after receiving a report that a baby appeared to have been abandoned.

There is no word on the baby's gender and the investigation is continuing with the Major Crime Unit taking the lead. Investigators have made “significant progress,” according to police.

The infant is receiving medical care in hospital and is doing well, according to an RCMP media statement.

No further information is being released at this time, but police say there is no risk to the public.

While police are investigating, the area is closed to traffic, including bicycles.
