Car goes airborne in Coquitlam but woman survives

Dash cam footage captures the incident that took place on the Brunette Avenue overpass on Monday

Coquitlam RCMP are investigating a single-vehicle accident that sent a 74-year-old woman to hospital after her car flipped over on the Brunette overpass.

The incident took place Monday at approximately 1 p.m. and was captured on dash cam footage and posted on Reddit by yetsyns996.

Const. John Graham of the Coquitlam RCMP said the investigation is ongoing but impaired driving is not suspected.

"It’s still under investigation to determine what the cause of collision was. There were a lot of witnesses, and a lot of people running toward the victim but no other vehicles or people were injured," Graham said.

Coquitlam Fire and Rescue attended the scene and had to pry the woman out of her car. She was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital by ambulance where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries."

Graham said it was fortunate that the woman didn't sustain more serious injuries and that no one else was hurt.

It took several hours before emergency responders were able to clear the scene, resulting in a traffic tie up on the overpass for several hours that afternoon.
