Charge laid in Port Coquitlam homicide

Edward Poorman is facing one count of second degree murder related to the death of 36-year-old Jonathon Shingoose
The incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, when the Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance in the 2300-block of Atkins Avenue.

Charges have been laid in the death of a man at a Port Coquitlam home last week.

Edward Poorman is facing one count of second degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Jonathon Shingoose. He was expected to appear in court Tuesday.

"IHIT investigators, supported by the Coquitlam RCMP, steadfastly worked to compile the evidence for charge approval consideration by crown counsel," said Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Cpl. Frank Jang. "Our police investigation is on-going. It has been turned over to the B.C. Prosecution Service and the matter will be before the court.”

The incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 4, at around 6 a.m. when an altercation broke out at a home in the 2300-block of Atkins Avenue. Coquitlam RCMP officers arrived on scene to find a man in serious condition. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.

A second man was arrested at the scene and also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Jang told The Tri-City News last week that investigators had "a very good idea of what happened," but were still talking to witnesses in the neighbourhood. He also noted that there were several witnesses in the home where the altercation occurred at the time of the incident.

While charges have been laid, police said anyone with information that has not yet spoke to investigators is asked to contact IHIT's information line (1-877-551-4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Those who wish to share information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
