Port Moody firefighters want your Christmas trees.

They’ll be turning them into wood chips and mulch at their annual tree chipping event Saturday and Sunday at the Inlet Centre fire hall.

The annual event raises money for the BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund, which runs an annual camp for young burn survivors, as well as support programs for adult burn survivors and education events like Burn Awareness Week.

PoMo firefighters will be turning Christmas trees that have been stripped of their decorations and tinsel into bark chips and mulch for use in the city’s gardens and walking trails. They’ll also use the event to demonstrate the fire dangers of a tree that has been left to dry out.

Coffee and hot chocolate will be available to help keep you warm, and the firefighters will even vacuum the loose needles from your vehicle.

The event goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and a minimum $5 donation is suggested. If you can’t transport your tree, a pick-up service is also available by emailing burnfund2399@gmail.com.
