A group of Alderson elementary alums are still searching for fellow classmates to help recreate their 1959 Grade 6 graduation photo as part of a 60-year reunion.

Waine Meyers, who is spearheading the initiative, said so far 15 of the approximately 32 students have been located and he hopes more can be found. A reunion reception will be held in September, when organizers hope to recreate the original image.

“We have a number of classmates anxious to get together,” Meyers said in an email. “Still working on locating more.”

He added that the nephew of Alderson elementary’s principal at the time has offered to stand in for Robert McBay, the teacher who appears in the original photo.

Back in 1959, Grade 6 was the highest level at Alderson elementary. Most of the students would have moved on the following year to Winslow Jr. secondary before finishing their final grades at Como Lake Sr. secondary (Centennial secondary was not built yet).

Anyone who is in the photo or recognizes one of the students should contact Meyers at [email protected].
