A Coquitlam Shoppers Drug Mart has reported one of its employees has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the chain’s parent company.

Loblaws Company Ltd. posted a notice to its COVID-19 cases page indicating that the infected staff member last worked at the 3025 Lougheed Highway location on Oct. 29.

The company did not indicate if any other employees had gone into self-isolation or if any customers were at risk of potential exposure.

Loblaws has flagged 11 of its stores across B.C. where a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, including several Shoppers Drug Mart locations, Real Canadian Super Stores and No Frills, among others.

This is the first of the company’s stores to report a staff member with COVID-19 in the Tri-Cities and comes at a time when caseloads across B.C. — and particularly Fraser Health — have reached levels not seen since the pandemic began in the province.

The Lower Mainland regions of Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health authorities remains under a temporary set of sweeping restrictions designed to halt transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19.
