Coquitlam Mounties will be arresting local business owners, politicians and top-ranking police officers as part of the annual Cops for Cancer Jail and Bail next week.

Suspects will be taken to a mock cell located at Coquitlam Centre mall where they will raise bail money from friends, family and residents in order to be set free. All of the proceeds will go to the Canadian Cancer Society to help kids with cancer.

"We need help from everyone in the community to raise donations," said Coquitlam RCMP Const. Pamela Newman. "Money raised is used to fund life-saving research and programs like Camp Goodtimes to reduce the devastating impacts of pediatric cancer on children and their families."

Camp Goodtimes is a summer recreation program located at Loon Lake in Maple Ridge offered to children and teens affected by cancer and their families. The program has been offered since 1985.

"Last year, I participated in the Tour de Coast and had the privilege of visiting Camp Goodtimes where I saw first hand the positive impact that Jail and Bail donations have on the lives of kids living with cancer," Newman added. "Their smiles are truly priceless."

During next Wednesday's Jail and Bail, a number of individuals will be taken into custody, including the Coquitlam RCMP's own safety bear.

The event will be held between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Apr. 24 on the second floor of Coquitlam Centre.
