A COVID-19 outbreak at a Coquitlam seniors home has now spread to at least 14 people.

Belvedere Care Centre first reported a single test-positive case in a resident Nov. 3.

Ten days later, the virus had spread to eight residents and six staff; however, there have been no deaths associated with the outbreak at the seniors home.

“A majority of the transmission is occurring in the community and spilling over into the health-care settings,” said Fraser Health CEO and president Dr. Victoria Lee in a call with reporters Friday.

In a Nov. 11 memo to families of the facility, obtained by the Tri-City News, Belvedere’s operations manager noted outbreak precautions were put into place Nov. 10, confining residents to their rooms.

All residents on the affected portions of the second and third floors have been or are being tested for the virus, according to the memo.

Scheduled visits to the facility are cancelled.
