Filling up the food bank shelves — and hungry bellies — is the goal of a summer food bank drive next weekend for Share Family and Community Services.

But this year collection will be run a little differently to keep everyone safe during COVID-19.

On Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30, Share volunteers will be setting up in the southwest parking lot of Coquitlam Centre for a drive-thru food bank donation effort.

To bring your food, enter the parking lot and drive to the collection spot, where volunteers will grab the donation, and then drivers can exit in a safe manner.

There’s even a map to ensure safety.

Here's how to donatem according to Share:

  1. Place your non-perishable donation in your trunk before you come to Coquitlam Centre.

  2. Drive through the drop-off station in the Southwest Parking Lot at the Shopping Centre. Please be sure to drive carefully and follow instructions (see map below).

  3. Pop your trunk. Our volunteers (wearing masks and gloves) will take the donation from your car.

Currently, as many as 350 households are receiving hampers each week from food banks located in Port Moody, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.

The annual Remember the Food Bank food drive will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. those days.

Share will also be accepting monetary donations using debit or credit, or you can donate online to www.sharesociety.ca\donate-to-share and donate virtually.
