Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam have a new RCMP superintendent.

And she’s the first woman to lead the detachment that serves the two municipalities as well as the villages of Anmore and Belcarra.

Today (Thursday), the two cities announced in a joint press release that Insp. Annette Fellner will assume the top role this summer.

Fellner, who has been the officer-in-charge (OIC) at the Mission detachment since April 2017, will bring 23 years of policing experience, having served in a number of roles across Western Canada including with the Serious and Organized Crime Unit, the Financial Integrity and Commercial Crime Unit, a detachment commander to five rural communities and a regional district officer.

Fellner replaces Sean Maloney, who retired in March — after four years at the helm — to take a job with Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

In the release, Maloney stated he was pleased to leave the Coquitlam/PoCo detachment “in such good hands. Insp. Fellner brings with her a unique blend of both urban and rural policing as well as extensive experience in resolving complex community social problems that will serve this jurisdiction well,” Maloney said.

Insp. Julie Drotar will be the acting OIC until Fellner arrives.
