Fire destroys boat parked in Port Coquitlam driveway

No injuries were reported and firefighters were able to keep the flames from spread to a nearby home

No injuries were reported after a boat parked in the driveway of a Port Coquitlam home caught fire early Thursday morning.

By the time firefighters arrived to the 900-block of Raymond Avenue, the flames had completely engulfed the vessel and began spreading to a nearby home. However, crews were quickly able to contain the flames.

"It had blown right through the top of the boat and onto the house," said PoCo Fire Chief Nick Delmonico. "It got onto the house by the time we got thereā€¦ but we managed to keep it from spreading too far."

The boat, which was approximately 40-feet in length, was completely destroyed in the blaze, but there was only minor damage to the home.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire, but Delmonico said it was not suspicious.

"We don't think, at this point, that there are any arson-type issues," he said. "We haven't determined the cause, it just doesn't appear to be suspicious."

Delmonico said that nobody was home at the time of the fire, which occurred at around 3 a.m., but that the owner of the boat has been located.
