FortisBC’s gas line upgrade work is expected to begin July 29 between Linton and Montrose street, continuing its move east down Como Lake Avenue.

Accessing the Como Lake Village shopping plaza could get a bit tricky for motorists in Coquitlam starting next week.

FortisBC’s gas line upgrade work is expected to begin July 29 between Linton and Montrose street, continuing its move east down Como Lake Avenue.

“We understand how a project like this can affect the community, which is why we are working to complete construction safely and as quickly as possile,” said Alex Munro, a spokesperson for FortisBC, in an email. “This is an important upgrade that will ensure more than 210,000 homes and businesses across the Lower Mainland — including 30,000 in Coquitlam — can continue to recieve the natural gas they count on every day.”

Currently, work is taking place between Clarke Road and Townley streets, Port and Linton streets as well as between Thermal Drive and Mariner Way.

The utility provider said it is close to completing its upgrades between Baker Drive and Mariner Way and between Porter and Schoolhouse streets. Those two sections are expected to open in early August.

A total of about 5.5km of new gas line is being installed along Como Lake Avenue, as FortisBC upgrades 20 km of gas line running through Vancouver, Burnaby and Coquitlam.
