Hey, neighbour: Developers must play nice when working in Coquitlam

City adopts policy to insure communication between residents and construction crews
Coquitlam city hall

Coquitlam has approved a policy to reduce disputes between developers working in existing neighbourhoods and nearby residents.

A city staff report said the new regulations, labeled the Good Neighbour Development Policy, put the onus on the developers to make sure they follow bylaws, regulations and policies, and communicate with residents in areas where they're working.

Common complaints, said the report, include noise, unsightly sites, dirt and debris on roads and taking up street parking spots.

Under the new policy, developers will be required to sign a declaration saying they understand what is required of them. City is staff will explore developing a template for on-site construction signage to let residents know what's happening.

The city intends to track complaints and bylaw infractions to see if the policy is working.

More information on the policy is available at coquitlam.ca/goodneighbour.
