The CP Holiday train visited Port Moody and Port Coquitlam on Tuesday, generating $20,000 in cash and 2,900 pounds of food for the food bank.

Food bank shelves will be filled this winter, thanks to the generous donations of visitors who turned out to witness the arrival of the CP Holiday Train on Tuesday.

Large crowds greeted the CP Holiday Train in Port Coquitlam and Port Moody Tuesday evening to watch entertainment, see the festive lights and contribute to the food bank run by Share Family and Community Services.

The result was a huge haul of food and a large bundle of cash to fill food bank shelves. In Port Moody, cash totals were $13,153.80, with 714 pounds of food collected, and in Port Coquitlam, cash totals were $9,027.35 with 2,200 pounds of food collected.

The train decked out in holiday lights visited the communities and presented a variety of entertainment, including the Sam Roberts Band, Kelly Prescott, Tracy Brown and Tyson Venegas.

The annual train that aims to raise money and goods for food banks across Canada drew hundreds of revellers out, behind the Port Moody recreation complex and at the West Coast Express station in PoCo — the final stop on the national tour, after more than 80 gigs.
