HOV restrictions will be 24/7 starting Aug. 1

Relaxed restrictions that have allowed single-occupant vehicles in the HOV lanes west of the Port Mann bridge during construction on evenings and weekends will stop this weekend.

Starting Aug. 1, all vehicles in the HOV lanes west of the Port Mann bridge must have two or more occupants.

Highway 1's relaxed high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) restrictions for evenings and weekends will come to an end this weekend.

Starting Aug. 1 the restrictions requiring vehicles with two or more occupants will be in effect west of the Port Mann bridge 24 hours a day. During construction, solo motorists were able to use the HOV lanes to help minimize the impact to traffic when crews required multiple lane closures on Highway 1.

Now that major construction work along the Port Mann/Highway 1 corridor and final finishing work will be wrapping up later this summer, the HOV lanes west of the bridge will return to the same 24-hour designation as elsewhere on the Highway 1 corridor.
