If you’ve ever wanted to sit atop a backhoe, learn how sewers work or how water gets to the tap in your home, circle Friday, May 24 on your calendar.

That’s when the Port Moody works yard at 3250 Murray St. will hold its annual Public Works Day open house. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition to displays of city equipment and infrastructure exhibits, there will also be live demonstrations, activities and giveaways. As well, visitors can help plant Port Moody’s Canada 150 eco-sculpture of a bear and her cub.

The event, which is part of a North America-wide celebration of Public Works Week, is free, but residents are asked to consider bringing a donation for Share Family and Community Services.
