Fraser Health officials are trying to calm fears of a measles outbreak in this region after a 17th case was confirmed linked to a Vancouver school.
The person whose case was confirmed Wednesday lives in the Fraser Health region but the location has not been released.
The individual was immediately isolated once measles was confirmed and poses no danger, a spokesperson Tasleem Juma told The Tri-City News Thursday.
“As soon as it was identified that they were exposed they were isolated, so there is no risk at all to the general public,” said Juma.
Fraser Health is, however, aware that there are rumors of a measles outbreak in Tri-City schools and is working to dispel the rumour, according to Fraser Health medical officer Dr. Aamir Bharmal.
“We can confirm that there is no measles outbreak at any schools in our region. There is also no known measles exposure in any of our schools nor in the community in general,” stated Bharmal in an email to The Tri-City News, adding: “We continue to advise individuals who have any of the symptoms of measles, such as a fever or rash, to call 811, their health care provider or public health for guidance on follow-up care.”
People should also ensure their immunizations are up-to-date, Bharmal note
