City ending its reservation system implemented in April

Users of the boat launch at Port Moody's Rocky Point Park will no longer require a reservation beginning Saturday.

It’s open season to get onto the open water again at the boat launch in Port Moody’s Rocky Point Park.

Beginning Saturday, reservations will no longer be required to use the ramp into Burrard Inlet. There will also be no restriction on the number of boats that can be launched in a day.

But, according to a press release, boaters putting their craft into the water will still be expected to maintain physical distancing.

Port Moody had introduced a reservation system to access the boat launch on April 19, and limited its use to city residents or existing annual pass holders after the ramp was initially closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also restricted the times boaters could access the ramp as well as the number of reservations.

A month later the city widened access to anyone, but also introduced a $25 reservation fee, in addition to the usual launch fee of $21.10 plus tax, to recover the costs it said it was incurring managing those bookings and the ramp.

Refunds of reservation fees for launch times booked for May 30 or beyond, can be obtained by calling 604-469-4556.
