A Port Moody business has been shortlisted for a 2020 Small Business BC award.

Reuse Bags, which produces mesh bags for produce, natural cotton bags for bulk and dried food, and reusable cotton rounds to remove makeup, is among five remaining nominees for the Premier’s People’s Choice award after the field was narrowed from 10 businesses across the province.

The family-run company is up against Indigenous business producing small-batch skin-care products from Squamish as well as a cat café, Brazilian restaurant and a play-based French language company in Vancouver.

A Coquitlam marketing company, Element IQ, and a Port Coquitlam caterer, Salt N Sear Catering, were both eliminated from their respective categories in the latest round.

In the next round, Reuse Bags will be invited to attend a Dragons’ Den-style pitch panel of business experts, who will then decide the winner.

When the competition began last fall, more than 600 small businesses were nominated.

Winners will be awarded a $1,500 cash prize and a one-year pass to Small Business BC education and experts. They will be announced Feb. 21 during the Small Business BC Awards Gala held at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
