A high-rise tower illegal cannabis operation has been discovered by the Port Moody police.

The department said in a news release it received reports of suspicious activity in the tower in June. The complainants said several unknown individuals were seen coming and going from the suite and numerous vehicles associated with the residence, but no one appeared to be actually living in it.

When the department executed a search warrant, officers found “a sophisticated illegal cannabis distribution operation.” They recovered evidence, said police, suggesting it was part of an organized network distributing illicit marijuana throughout the region. Approximately $75,000 worth of cannabis products were seized from the suite.

A 29-year-old man from Surrey was arrested. No charges have been laid, but the investigation continues and will be conducted in conjunction with a newly formed provincial agency, the community safety unit which was set up to focus on the illegal sale of cannabis.
