Terry Fox’s dream is very much alive in the Tri-Cities this week after a school run involving more than 200 School District 43 students raised nearly $40,000 for cancer research.

“We had 200 students running up to 13.8 km each to bring Terry’s Money Home to Port Coquitlam,” said Seaview community school principal Frank Pearse who organized the event that was held last Friday.

Fifteen schools from Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Anmore participated.

This the second annual Running Terry’s Money Home event and Pearse said he hopes it will continue to grow.

“It would be great to see representatives of every elementary school in our district a part of this event next year.” he said.

Also supporting the endeavor were members of the Coquitlam RCMP and Port Moody and Vancouver police departments. Save on Foods donated the bananas and oranges for a refreshment break at Hillcrest school.

The students finished the run at the offices of the Terry Fox Foundaiton in Port Coquitlam.
