The sexual assault case against Port Moody Mayor Rob Vagramov will return to court Monday.

At last month’s appearance in Port Coquitlam provincial court, special prosecutor Michael Klein said the charge against the mayor will proceed summarily rather than by indictment.

Vagramov, who has publicly proclaimed his innocence, is accused of committing the crime sometime between April 1 and July 10, 2015. The alleged victim is not named under a publication ban.

The mayor took a leave of absence from his elected duties in March and, last month — a day before council was to start its planned review of his paid absence — Vagramov announced he wouldn’t be collecting his $111,833 annual salary while the matter is before the courts.

Rosemary Lodge, the city’s communications manager, told The Tri-City News the municipality is not paying for the mayor’s legal costs.

The case is scheduled for July 15 at 9:30 a.m.
