Staff and students were evacuated briefly from Miller Park Community School in Coquitlam this morning as a precaution because of an odour. No gas leak or other issue was found, however.

Students at Miller Park Community School in Coquitlam started their day a little late today Friday when a strange smell prompted an evacuation order.

“Out of an abundance of caution, when students and staff arrived at the school they were diverted to their official offsite evacuation school — Banting Middle right next door,” stated School District 43 spokesperson Peter Chevrier in an email.

Staff noticed the smell around 8 a.m. this morning and Fortis and school district crews were called in to investigate. No gas leaks or other issues were found, however, and students and staff resumed the regular school day at 9:15 a.m.
