Animals have no idea what's behind bangs and flashes

Re. "Fireworks are bad for both pets and wildlife" (Letters, The Tri-City News, July 25).

I read with interest Tracy Riddell's excellent letter and I agree. I live in Vancouver and have lobbied the city to ban fireworks on Halloween - to no avail. My dog is very frightened. There is no context for animals when the skies suddenly start banging. Confused and frightened wildlife are definitely at risk.

There must be a better way to celebrate without harm to pets and wildlife.
