Coquitlam family can't find a doctor

The Editor,

We have been living in the Tri-Cities for some 34 years and now find ourselves, like many others, unable to locate a family doctor to take on our family. Our doctor retired about 18 months ago and, since then, it has been a nightmare.

Initially, a doctor was taking over his practice of 30 years but then decided after a year not to continue. A temporary doctor came on for the past year and will be leaving for another area in March.

We have visited many doctors' offices and clinics but reception has not been great and we have been advised no new patients will be considered. We have also contacted the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC with no success.

It seems the provincial government must have something to do with this important issue for our community. In addition, the mayors and councils seem to be more concerned about spending our money and not encouraging medical professionals to come here. Business is their prime interest.

This is another major issue facing many families not only in the Tri-Cities but throughout the province. We need help in this area. Any advice, other than to move?
