Coquitlam's Canada Day 'festivities' made mess at Lafarge Lake

The Editor,

Re. "Fireworks rescheduled to Monday" (www.tricitynews.com).

I did not attend the Canada Day celebrations at Lafarge Lake on July 1 but I did take the dog for a walk there the next morning and I am appalled at what I saw.

There was half-eaten food and garbage, broken furniture and empty alcohol containers strewn throughout this lovely park that we cherish and in which wildlife is trying to exist.

Apparently, what I saw Monday morning was not viewed as bad enough because I heard over the news that Canada Day fireworks were going to proceed Monday evening.

Anyone with even the smallest amount of common sense would have put an immediate stop to any functions proceeding at this park for now and in the future.

This park is a haven for the wildlife and the community of taxpayers who truly care for and take care of it. The monstrosities that were erected for this "festivity" were in the poorest of taste and utterly revolting to see both before and after.

What do you think happens to the little ducklings and goslings when you perform these festive acts? Do you care?

This is definitely not how I want my local government to operate.

I am ashamed of what took place at this festival (I understand people were hurt and at least one person was taken away by ambulance).

I am saddened by the complete lack of common sense that comes from this council with respect to the use of this park.
