Does city of Coquitlam have to spend surplus?

The Editor, Re. "Welcome. That will cost $50k" (The Tri-City News, May 18). To mayor and council: Is there some reason you spend a surplus? Perhaps good fiscal management got us to this place but that money does not need to be spent.

The Editor,

Re. "Welcome. That will cost $50k" (The Tri-City News, May 18).

To mayor and council:

Is there some reason you spend a surplus? Perhaps good fiscal management got us to this place but that money does not need to be spent.

What about giving a tax break to the people who pay a fairly substantial increase on their property taxes year after year? Given that each increase is compounded by the increase of each previous year, it seems that we could certainly use a break.

Council, give your heads a shake. If it was your fiscal household management that caused you to have a few extra dollars in the bank, would you go out and spend it all? Welcome to Coquitlam, all right.
