Editorial: Peace and good will to you and yours

This is the time of year to take a breath and take stock — not rush around like crazy

Enjoying nature in local parks is one way to gain peace and tranquility during the holiday season. This photo was taken by reporter Diane Strandberg in Mundy Park in Coquitlam.

Regardless of your religious persuasion, the holiday season is a time of celebration and reflection.

Whether you mark the winter solstice, celebrate Hanukkah or honour the birth of Christ, or are bringing your own family culture and traditions to the season, these next few days will be a time to take a break while also enjoying time spent with family and friends.

The year 2016 certainly had its challenges, and no one really knows what 2017 will bring. So in this calm period before the New Year, take a moment to really enjoy what you have.

Take a walk in your local park, visit the Lights at Lafarge festive display, visit your local library or community centre. If you can, take a moment to breathe and just be.

There will be time enough when the holidays are over to get back to the busy routines of life.
