It was the last straw this week for a group of merchants in Deep Cove. Starting this week, patrons would be hard pressed to find a plastic straw at a Cove business, part of a group effort to cut down single-use plastics, effectively making the neighbourhood one of the first in the Lower Mainland to go totally straw free (paper straws, however, will be available in their place).
The no-straw movement has been gaining steam as people take a closer look at the footprint left behind by plastic and how it is damaging the world’s oceans.
