The Editor,
Labour Day used to mark the end of summer vacation and a time to get back into routines.
But Labour Day this year has taken on a new meaning for my family.
Last year, my husband was killed in the workplace. It has been a challenging year as we have learned to cope without his presence in our daily lives. There is a void beyond what you could imagine unless you, too, have been the victim of this type of tragedy.
I am not looking for pity, though. I am hoping that others can learn something from our horrific experience. I hope you have prepared for the worst possible day in your life, both financially as well as from a practical point of view.
It is helpful to know how a person wants to be remembered. Take some time soon and review your plans and communicate your wishes to those who will have to carry them out. Consider it a labour of love.
