Letter: Belcarra pay parking scheme an opportunistic 'dip into our pockets'

Letter writer argues that last summer's 'parking debacle' gave Metro Vancouver an excuse to implement a pay parking 'cash grab'

As part of Metro Vancouver's Belcarra Regional Park, visitors to White Pine Beach on Sasamat Lake must now pay a $2 per hour seasonal parking fee during peak hours between April 1 and Sept. 31.

The Editor,

Petition slams Belcarra parking fee as 'cash grab' as hot weather draws crowds,” (Tri-City News, April 17)

I knew it was a matter of time before Belcarra Regional Park would have pay parking. For years, Metro Vancouver parks has relatively ignored this park but after last summer's parking debacle they saw an opportunity for a “cash grab.”

Will any of the revenue go towards the park infrastructure? I doubt that very much. Instead, it appears to be another dip into our pockets in my opinion. When they have to make a statement that it's "not a revenue generator" it means that it's exactly that.
