LETTER: Charges for water in Coquitlam are 'unfair'

The Editor,

Re. "We need water meters" (Letters, The Tri-City News, Dec. 26).

The only aspect of the letter from D.B. Wilson with which I can agree is the need for installation of water meters in order to make water charges equitable. The new city of Coquitlam policy for charging single-family homes greater water costs is manifestly unfair.

My husband and I, like many other senior citizens, live in a single-family home but we do not garden, we do little laundry and definitely don't wash our 20-year-old car often.

All other charges are based on usage (even garbage rates), so why in the world Coquitlam council slipped in this turkey of a change is baffling. As shown by the numbers of letters of protest in various newspapers, this new bylaw is considered unfair.
