Letter: Coquitlam mayor's actions don't match Burke Mountain comments

Resident points to vote on a different Metro Vancouver project.

The Editor:

In his defence of the significant changes to the density plans for Burke Mountain village, Mayor Richard Stewart is quoted as saying, "we have to no longer continue to expand into the agricultural lands and up the valley."

His concerns would be laudable if his reputation was as a protector of the environment, but he and Coun. Craig Hodge both voted recently at a Metro Vancouver board meeting in favour of allowing the City of Surrey to expand its containment boundary into land that is environmentally sensitive and which many other Metro leaders tried to save by voting against the measure.

His side won and the environment lost.
