While it is true that some homeowners waste water by using drinking water to wash driveways and sidewalks - and certainly those automatic sprinklers that operate even when it is raining are irresponsible - most of us are respectful of the fresh water supply on which we all depend.

It seems, though, that the city does not value the "green" contribution that home/garden owners provide for the city without maintenance fees charged to the city.

Oh, but of course, the city does seem to value our trees as evidenced by the tree cutting bylaw. Now that is confusing.

How about basing water rates on the number of people living in a residence?
