LETTER: Coronation concerns

The Editor,

Re. "Keep an eye on closed school, says College Park resident" (The Tri-City News, Jan. 9).

I read with great interest the concern that Port Moody resident Reece Harding has over the eyesore that the boarded-up former College Park elementary school has become. As a Coronation Park resident, we had to endure the eyesore that Coronation Park elementary became after its closure. The school was never again utilized except to attract rats, drug users and graffiti artists.

The school district has finally torn down that eyesore and while that may seem like a final solution, I feel (and I know others in our Port Moody neighbourhood are feeling) a sense of loss. I hope that with the demolition of the school we don't lose the only green space this area has.

Lucky for Mr. Harding that College Park is in Port Moody, unfortunate for us the land Coronation Park sat on is in Coquitlam and, therefore, the city of Port Moody claims it has no say what happens in our neighbourhood.

Port Moody
