The Editor,
I think the confidence vote in the legislature will happen this month because Premier Christy Clark said she wants it and the NDP and Greens cannot afford to wait.
I have heard the Trans Mountain pipeline is to begin construction in September and those parties will need to be in power to suppress it. The only holdup now is the selection of a house speaker but no MLA wants it because their party would lose voting power in the legislature.
A solution to this dilemma is the NDP and Greens should choose a candidate who failed to win a riding. I think it is fair considering the circumstances and some failed candidates have vote counts comparable to elected candidates.
For example, the failed candidate with the highest was Gary Holman (NDP) of Saanich North with 10,764 votes — higher than the vote count of 29 elected candidates.
