Letter: Grade 4 students pen a love letter to Earth

'We call on Justin Trudeau and the federal government, on David Eby and the government of BC to create laws for your protection. We call on the corporations and big businesses of this world, on “big oil” and on all the people hurting you to get money to STOP hurting you, to put you first.'

'You give us seasons, snow and sun and rain and hail and frost, deserts and canyons, farmland and forests, mountains and oceans. We love all the different parts of you, Earth.'

Dear Earth:

We love you because you give us a place to live. You give us food and water, healthy soil and plants, and the elements we need to survive.

You give us seasons, snow and sun and rain and hail and frost, deserts and canyons, farmland and forests, mountains and oceans. We love all the different parts of you, Earth.

We love your oceans because the plants that live in the ocean, such as planktons, algae, produce most of our oxygen. We love that the seas provide us with a place to play, swim and have fun with family and friends.

We love your forests that give us shelter, wood to build homes, fires to keep us warm. We love that moss can grow on decomposed trees, to create a good home for insects. We love the mycelium networks in the forest floor, which communicate, just like us.

We call on groups around the world to work together to protect the Earth.

We respect and honour the Indigenous ways of knowing and caring for the Earth.

We join our voices with climate protection groups and leaders like Greta Thunberg.

We call on other Changemakers, other young people who want you to flourish forever, to raise their voices with us.

We ask those upholding systems that are harming you, to please stop.

We call on Justin Trudeau and the federal government, on David Eby and the government of BC to create laws for your protection.

We call on the corporations and big businesses of this world, on “big oil” and on all the people hurting you to get money to STOP hurting you, to put you first.

We ask everyone to please help us protect and nourish the Earth so that our own children can love the Earth, too.

If we didn’t have you, there wouldn’t be an us.

Thank you,

The Changemakers – a group of Grade 4 students from Roberts Creek Elementary
