The Editor, 

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues I — a working front line paramedic and emergency nurse — see the stress and fatigue on the faces of my colleagues while they continue to provide a high-level of professional care. 

As they go about providing care they are trying to protect their families, friends and co-workers while knowing they face a risk every day. As this pandemic continues there is no doubt that many individuals will also feel anxious, depressed and a sense of despair. 

Look after your mental health. Sleep well, eat properly, get out and enjoy the sun and fresh air while maintaining the guidelines issued by the provincial health officer. Communicate with family, friends and, if needed, use the crisis lines established by the government. 

If you need assistance and are concerned about your health, reach out to the 811 service or to the many online professional sites. If you need immediate care the 911 service and paramedics and hospitals will be there for everyone. 

Be thoughtful, be compassionate and be kind. Do not become depressed, angry or filled with despair. These feelings promote fear, hoarding and recklessness. 

This pandemic will pass and together we will prevail. Be assured many individuals are at work for you, so stay at home for us, your family and friends. Be responsible, be strong and be safe.
