LETTER: Keep your trash out of the river

The Editor,

Happy New Year to all in the Tri-Cities.

I wonder when the yearly Coquitlam River clean-up will end?

Ever year at this time, time and energy is spent by some to help clean up - very noble. But this will go on forever and ever until such time that proper fines and sentences are administered to those pigs who dare to destroy our beautiful province. Those of you who throw garbage into the river, you know who you are - pigs, with apologies to the actual animal.

We all must do our part to help control what devastation the chafer beetle is doing to our lawns, parks, etc. I would like to know actually what that part is, however. We cannot use anything stronger than good old H2O and dishwashing soap to control pests, etc. - the products we can spend thousands on in our futile attempts are useless. And God forbid, you are found with a bottle of Diazinon.

So what, pray tell, is our part? Hey, how about paving over all our green spaces - now there is a novel idea.

R.A. Yule, Port Coquitlam
