The Editor,
On Sunday, July 24, I attended my first neighbourhood block party along with two of my longtime friends, Pat and Linda.
It was held in the 1100-block of Dansey Avenue and hosted by Jeff Kim to celebrate the city of Coquitlam’s 125th birthday.
Since we live in the cul de sac area (since the mid-1960s), we had not met all our neighbours at the other end of the street.
This gathering — with people ranging in age from six months to mid-80s — gave us the opportunity to meet up with old friends and make new ones. It was a delightful event, where everyone contributed side dishes while city funding paid for hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks.
If you have the opportunity to facilitate a block party in your neighbourhood, accept the challenge. You won’t be sorry.
And thank you to the city of Coquitlam, Jeff and the new neighbours I met.
