The Editor,
Re. "Keep Fremont connector away from Cedar Dr., residents say" (The Tri-City News, Jan. 30).
I attended the open house that was held at Hyde Creek rec centre on Jan. 27 and was happy with the number of participants who filled the gymnasium to capacity. There were a lot of good questions and comments.
At one point, Mayor Greg Moore informed us that an environmental impact study (EIS) and a habitat compensation plan would be completed once council has determined which route option to go with.
An EIS - which should include noise and dust impact studies as well as a social impact study - cannot be an afterthought. It is a tool used to inform a decision, therefore it should have already been carried out.
The various route options are so close to one another (within a 5 km radius), that an EIS done for one option would necessarily encompass the other options, as an EIS should cover a certain area and cannot be localized along a narrow route corridor.
I invite people, who have not shared their opinion yet about the Fremont route proposals to include the above.
