LETTER: Questions for Port Moody council on blue vs. green

The Editor,

Re. "Moody council is opposed to Burrard shutdown" and "PoMo council joins Blue Dot movement" (The Tri-City News, Feb. 13).

After reading of various motions approved by Port Moody city council, I have some questions:

Does operation of Burrard Thermal add anything to greenhouse gases?

Did council really adopt a position that commits it in all future decisions to "reducing greenhouse gas emissions"?

Is the support for continued operation of Burrard Thermal in conflict with a commitment to "reducing greenhouse gas emissions"?

Is the David Suzuki Foundation now running Port Moody city council?

Did we elect our council to incur the obvious costs entailed in the so-called Blue Dot movement without proper staff study and public consultation?

Should we expect businesses to rush to invest in Port Moody in the face of these decisions?

Should we have sympathy for our mayor in his obviously difficult efforts to bring some common sense to council deliberations and declarations?

Just asking.
