A day after Port Coquitlam Coun. Laura Dupont (left) was censured by council for leaking confidential information, former NDP candidate for MP Christina Gower (right) has come to her defence, launching a petition to have her various positions restored.

Re. “Petition launched to restore censured Port Coquitlam councillor” (The Tri-City News, May 29)

I support the petition wholeheartedly. I believe that in-camera meetings are fundamentally wrong. It flies directly in the face of the so-called “transparency” government bodies claim so often as being maintained.

The Coun. Laura Dupont apologized and said it was an error for what happened and what was shared, whatever “it” was. OK, I accept this.

But, I guess it is Mayor Brad West's way or the highway these days. And, the saddest part to this whole story is that the secrecy continues to even what the issue was in the first place.

Secrecy on top of secrecy.

Another very sad day for the PoCo city council — even more sad is the rubber-stamping of this censure action by the entire council.
